eBay Account Suspended Over AI Content? What Actually Happens Next
Your suspension notice almost certainly doesn't say the word "AI" anywhere in it. It says "misleading listing," a VeRO complaint, or a general policy violation — and that wording is the actual key to a real appeal, not a dead end.
What's really being charged
eBay doesn't ban AI-generated listing content outright. Most AI-related suspensions trace back to an AI-generated photo or description that misrepresented the actual item's condition or authenticity, or content flagged under eBay's VeRO program as resembling a rights owner's protected material — not to AI use on its own.
Read your notice for one of these three things
"Misleading listing" / item-not-as-described — eBay believes a listing photo or description doesn't match the real item, often triggered by a buyer complaint.
VeRO (Verified Rights Owner) complaint — a brand or rights holder reported your listing as infringing. AI or not, this is an IP appeal, not a description-accuracy one.
General policy violation — a catch-all, sometimes triggered automatically when a listing photo is detected as AI-generated stock imagery rather than a photo of the actual item.
Which one you actually got determines what your appeal needs to prove. Arguing "I didn't use AI" against a VeRO notice, or arguing authenticity against a misleading-listing notice, wastes your one real shot at reinstatement.
What a real appeal needs
eBay's Trust & Safety reviewers respond to specifics, not protests of innocence. A working appeal shows: what the item actually is and how the listing was created (including the honest AI/no-AI answer on any imagery or copy), what's been corrected if the listing was inaccurate, and any evidence — real photos, receipts, sourcing records — that supports your account.
