Etsy Account Suspended Over AI Content? What Actually Happens Next

Your suspension notice almost certainly doesn't say the word "AI" anywhere in it. It says something like "not handmade," "misrepresentation," or a Creativity Standards violation — and that wording is the actual key to a real appeal, not a dead end.

What's really being charged Etsy doesn't ban AI-generated items. It requires you to disclose AI use through its own listing setting when you're creating or designing an item with AI. A suspension usually means Etsy's trust & safety system believes a listing was mislabeled — sold as fully handmade when AI played a substantial role, or flagged after a buyer/competitor report — not that AI was used at all.

Read your notice for one of these three things

Which one you actually got determines what your appeal needs to prove. Conflating them is the single most common appeal mistake — arguing "I didn't use AI" against a Creativity Standards notice, or arguing disclosure against an IP claim, wastes your one real shot.

What a real appeal needs

Etsy's case reviewers respond to specifics, not protests of innocence. A working appeal shows: what the item actually is and how it was made (including the honest AI/no-AI answer), why the listing's current disclosure state is accurate or how you're correcting it, and any process evidence — design files, drafts, photos of physical work — that supports your account of authorship.
